About the Mexico guides

The guides in this category explain how to say things in Mexico, which in almost every case means Mexican Spanish. Mexico has more Spanish speakers than any other country, and Mexican Spanish has many words of its own, a good number of them borrowed from Nahuatl, such as chocolate, tomate and aguacate. Many guides here also give informal words and slang. For standard Spanish see the Spanish guides, and for more on the Mexican variety the Mexican guides.

In Mexico usted is the polite "you" for strangers and older people, and tú is used with friends. The letter z, and c before e or i, sound like s. Mexico also recognises dozens of Indigenous languages, the largest of them Nahuatl.
