jag älskar dig så mycket
jag älskar dig så mycket is the Swedish way to say 'I love you so much'.
This phrase is a strong expression used to convey deep affection or romantic love for another person.
What does it mean word for word?
The phrase is composed of jag (I), älskar (love), dig (you), så (so) and mycket (much).
Which one should you use?
While älskar expresses deep romantic or profound love, the phrase jag tycker om dig så mycket is a milder expression used to say 'I like you so much' or to express general affection.
How does it change in a sentence?
The verb älskar is the present tense form of älska (to love).
Did you know?
- In Sweden, älskar is used much more sparingly than 'love' in English. While English speakers might say 'I love this pizza', using jag älskar for food can sound overly dramatic or intense to a Swede.
- The word mycket shares a distant ancestor with the English word 'much', both stemming from the Proto-Indo-European root meǵh₂- meaning 'big' or 'great'.
- Swedish speakers often prefer to use the phrase jag är så kär i dig to say 'I am so in love with you', which focuses on the feeling of being 'fond' or 'attached'.
