ti amo di più
The English phrase "I love you more" is translated into Italian as ti amo di più.
What does it mean word for word?
The phrase is composed of ti (you, object), amo (I love) and di più (more).
Which one should you use?
Ti amo di più is used for romantic love, whereas ti voglio bene di più is used for friends and family.
How does it change in a sentence?
Adding ancora before di più intensifies the phrase to mean "even more", resulting in ti amo ancora di più.
Did you know?
- The word più comes from the Latin 'plūs', which is a relative of the English word 'plus'. They both stem from an ancient root meaning 'many' or 'more'.
- Italian has a strict social divide between ti amo and ti voglio bene, where using the former with a parent or sibling could be seen as inappropriately romantic.
