In Nicaragua Christmas is Navidad. The word is the same as in the rest of the Spanish-speaking world.
Many families also eat a large tamal called nacatamal around the holidays. The night of December 24 is Nochebuena.

When do people say it?
Nicaraguans celebrate the Immaculate Conception on December 7 with La Gritería. People go from house to house singing and receive sweets and small gifts, which starts the Christmas season.
