Is there a formal and an informal way to say it?
While tu es stupide is a direct way to address someone, there are several alternatives depending on the register. For a much more common, colloquial and vulgar way to call someone stupid in everyday French, you might hear t'es con. In informal settings, you can also use Tu es bête to imply someone is being foolish or T'es vraiment pas futé to suggest they lack intelligence or common sense. If you need to be formal, you can suggest someone lacks sound judgment by saying Vous manquez de discernement or suggest they have difficulty understanding ideas by saying Vous avez du mal à saisir les concepts.
