About Niuean

Niuean, vagahau Niue, is the language of Niue, a small island nation in the South Pacific, where it is official together with English. Far more Niueans now live in New Zealand than on the island itself, and UNESCO classes the language as definitely endangered. It is a Polynesian language closely related to Tongan. The usual greeting is fakaalofa atu.
