Estonian is the official language of Estonia, spoken by about 1.2 million people. It is a Finnic language, closely related to Finnish and more distantly to Hungarian, and unrelated to the Baltic and Slavic languages of its neighbours.
Estonian is written in Latin letters with õ, ä, ö and ü, and its spelling follows the sound closely. The first syllable of a word is always stressed. Use teie for a polite "you" and sina with friends.
