About Edo

Edo, also called Bini, is the language of the Edo people of Benin City and the surrounding area in Edo State, southern Nigeria. It was the language of the historic Kingdom of Benin, which is not connected to the modern country of Benin. About 1.6 million people speak it as a first language, and it is taught in some schools in Edo State. Like many languages of the region it is tonal.
