SPY×FAMILY
SPY×FAMILY is the Japanese title for the manga and anime series Spy x Family.
The phrase refers to the specific title of the Japanese media franchise. While the official stylized title uses the English words and a cross symbol, it is frequently written in Japanese katakana as スパイファミリー (Spy Family), which omits the 'x'.
Which one should you use?
The standard title is SPY×FAMILY, but in Japanese text, the series is often written as スパイファミリー by omitting the 'x'. There are also informal shortened versions used in casual conversation, such as スパファ and スパファミ.
Did you know?
- The abbreviation スパファミ (Supafami) is a clever linguistic pun that mirrors the name of the 'Super Famicom', which was the Japanese name for the Super Nintendo.
- The 'x' in the official title SPY×FAMILY is actually a multiplication sign rather than the letter 'x'. In Japanese media, this symbol is often used to indicate a crossover or a specific relationship between two elements.
- Japanese fans may use the term 推し (oshi) when talking about their favorite characters in スパイファミリー. This term describes a 'favorite' that you actively support or 'push' toward success.
