加入我
jiārù wǒ
The English phrase "join me" is translated into Chinese as 加入我 (jiārù wǒ).
加入我 is most commonly used when you are inviting someone to join a specific organization, a team or a formal group.
What does it mean word for word?
The phrase consists of the verb 加入, which means to join or to enter and the pronoun 我, which means me.
Which one should you use?
While 加入我 refers to becoming a member or part of a group, the phrase 跟我来 is used instead when you want someone to physically follow you to a location. Additionally, in casual conversation, native speakers often prefer using the structure [Verb] + 一起 (together) to invite someone to participate in an activity, such as 一起吃饭 (eat together).
How do you pronounce it?
jiārù wǒ
Did you know?
- In digital spaces like WeChat, the act of 'joining' a group chat is often referred to as 拉 (to pull), as in 把我拉进群 (pull me into the group).
- The word 加入 can also mean 'to add an ingredient' in cooking, such as adding salt to a pot, which is a completely different sense of 'joining'.
- If you want to invite someone to join you for a quick drink or a meal, using 加入 can sound overly dramatic or even like a recruitment speech for a cult.
