Gmail
Gmail is the French term for the free email service provided by Google.
In more descriptive or official contexts, one might use the phrase service de messagerie électronique de Google to describe what it is.

- In France, the word email is commonly used, but you will also hear courriel, a portmanteau of 'courrier' and 'électronique' that is strictly championed by the government to protect the language.
- Although Gmail is used globally, a French speaker might describe their inbox using the word boîte, which literally means 'box', reflecting the physical tradition of a post box.
- In Quebec, the use of courriel is far more dominant than in France, as Canadian French has a stronger tradition of creating native terms to replace English tech words.
