The English phrase bean bag toss is translated into Spanish as lanzamiento de saquitos.
lanzamiento de saquitos is used to describe the specific game where players throw small fabric bags filled with beans at a target. It is a common activity found at carnivals, school fairs or backyard parties.
What does it mean word for word?
The phrase is composed of lanzamiento, which means throw or toss and saquitos, which is the diminutive of saco, meaning little bags.
Did you know?
- The word lanzamiento is also used in Spanish to describe a commercial 'launch' of a product or a movie premiere.
- The term saquitos uses the diminutive suffix -ito to add a sense of charm or playfulness to the game, rather than just indicating the bags are physically small.
- Depending on the region, these games may be played with maíces or corn kernels, which can lead locals to name the components after the grain rather than the bag.
