In Hindi, the plain word is पेशाब (peshāb), used as पेशाब करना (peshāb karnā), to pee. Children and parents say सू सू (sū sū).

Vinegar in Hindi is सिरका (sirkā). It is used in pickles, sauces and Indo-Chinese dishes. At the shop ask for सिरका (sirkā) by the bottle.

The Hindi word for tortoise is कछुआ (kachhuā). It is also used for a turtle, since Hindi uses one common word for both.

“I am Indian” is मैं भारतीय हूँ (Main bhaaratiya hoon). Men and women say it the same way. For “we are Indian” say हम भारतीय हैं (Hum bhaaratiya hain).

In Hindi, a thief is चोर (chor). Someone who snatches things quickly, like a bag or a chain, is called an उचक्का (uchakka).

A hunter is a शिकारी (shikari). The same word is used for a man or a woman, and it also describes any animal that hunts its prey.

A cloud is बादल (baadal) in Hindi. In poems and songs you may also hear मेघ (megh), which comes from Sanskrit.

To say very good in Hindi, use बहुत अच्छा (bahut achchhā). बहुत बढ़िया (bahut baṛhiyā) is more casual, and बेहतरीन (behtarīn) means excellent.

In Hindi police is पुलिस (pulis), the same English loanword. A single police officer is पुलिसवाला (pulisawālā).

In Hindi rain is बारिश (bārish). बरसात (barsāt) is also common and often means the rainy season.
