Did you know?
- The word doula comes from the Greek word for 'servant-woman', emphasizing a role of support rather than medical authority.
- While 'doula' is used in urban professional circles, a person traveling through rural parts of Spain or Latin America might find the term unrecognizable, as local customs favor terms like comadrona.
- Because doula is a loanword from English, you may find it spelled with an accent as dóula in some texts to align with Spanish stress rules, even though it is not official.
